Blue Eyes

By Patrick Kozub

Blue eyes, thought I’d drop you a line
the clouds have cleared, and spring’s out to shine

Let go, those parting words to me
prob’ly you were right, and Hell, I’ve got all I need

I’ve got love, I’ve got light, I’ve got ink stains, woodgrains, and time
and the pieces all add up when I lay down at night

Blue eyes, hope you’re doing fine
have you found a good man, for those slow Kentucky nights?

These days, I dwell in simple things
and my vict’ries are small, but bright, and they took years to win

they took love, they took light, they took ink stains, woodgrains, and time
and the pieces all make sense…

and I’ve been low, but the sky has never been so clear
as your postcards go yellow, still treasured souvenirs
and now, I’d be glad to hear:

that you got love, that you got light, spark that sets you alight
do the pieces all add up when you lay down
do the pieces all add up when you lay down
do the pieces all add up when you lay down at night
