Rile the Dead

By Patrick Kozub

If you’re gonna go digging, metal to the Earth
disturbing the ground, kicking up dirt
a hard rain’s comin, you better be sure, you better be sure…

sit with his ghost, what’s he say?
are you finally gonna listen, will you turn away?
content to make the same mistakes instead

it’s bad luck to rile the dead…
It’s bad luck to rile the dead…

if the ground ain’t steady, what takes root?
you can’t feed a family on a kernel of truth
water’s rising, wash it away, wash it away

maybe he’s guilty, maybe you ain’t,
the last man standing writes the history page
time’ll drive us all down in the end

it’s bad luck to rile the dead…
It’s bad luck to rile the dead…

Good Lord, son, you’ve won the war
nothing’s left worth fighting for
time is quick, life is short, don’t waste it all away

it’s bad luck to rile the dead…
It’s bad luck to rile the dead…

If you’re gonna go digging, metal to the Earth
disturbing the ground, kicking up dirt
a hard rain’s comin, you better be sure, you better be sure…
